SiteScheduler

In this short introduction we will give an overview of what SiteScheduler is used for and what some of the features are. SiteScheduler software will help you in distributing content from one central place to several remote sites. The software is based on the newest Internet technology with an eye on making it as robust as possible. SiteScheduler is developed in a modular way which makes it very flexible.

The SiteScheduler software suite is based on the server and Player principle. The server is called the Administrator and the Player is refered to as the Player. The Administrator is where you specify the content and the schedule and is based at some central location. The Player, which is based at some remote site, displays this content following the specified schedule. The Administrator distributes the schedule and content through the network protocol to the remote Players. The Player generates log files displaying what content has been shown which is fed to the Administrator to be viewed by the operator.

The Player is made to be very robust so that if an error occurs it will keep on running. For this reason a special watchdog program will monitor the health of the Player to ensure that something useful is shown at the site at all times. The Player is based on a modular design. This means that modules can be added easily and be scheduled the same as web based content. Modules can be a media player, an RS232 control module, program launcher module, etc.

The Administrator is a very user-friendly editing program for schedules. It will also distribute the schedules to the sites giving maximum feedback on what is happening. The Administrator can use the Remote Access Service to dial to the remote sites to make a network connection or it can make a direct network connection to the sites if they are connected to a LAN. The schedule is downloaded to the site so that there need not be a permanent network connection between the Player and Administrator saving on connection costs. The user has a choice of using an advanced multicast protocol (send once from the Administrator to many Players) or using a unicast connection (sending from the Administrator to one particular Player).
